events Critically-acclaimed pianist and vocal artist Shannon Hope returns to Durban after her award-winning run at the National Arts Festival in July.   The Kawai-endorsed artist, who is currently showcasing tracks from her much-anticipated forthcoming album due for release later this year, was awarded the 2011 Standard Bank Ovation Award for her performances at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. “Artistic innovation, excellence, the exploration of new performance styles and the courage to open new conversations through the arts underpin the motivation of the Standard Bank Ovation Awards”, and Hope shares this recognition with the likes of Chris Chameleon and Rob van Vuuren, amongst others who were recognised for their work on the National Arts Festival fringe this month.    “[Her] understated quirky style complements her energetic playing and rich, powerful voice. Hope’s songs are intensely personal, with brave and honest lyrics. Instantly likeable, Hope captivates the audience with her accessible melodies and beguiling stage presence." Rowan Roux, Cue National Arts Festival Review, July 2011   Joining her will be respected Durban-based singer-songwriter, Rob Warren, whose involvement in the Durban music scene has also been noticeably prolific over the past decade. Having launched two successful theatre productions with his band Zaffa last year - “Born In The RSA” at Ushaka Marine World and “Zaffaland” at House of Theatre - Warren turns his attention back to his solo work for a few select shows in Durban over the coming months.
